Isaiah 58 centers mostly on the subject of fasting. Verse 13 raises the question of the relationship between fasting and the Sabbath? Perhaps, it is this: Fasting is a physical exercise to achieve spiritual ends. The fast God really wants is the "fast of the soul," ceasing from our works and delighting in His presence - the purpose of the Sabbath.
