Introduction: A Gaze at Glory

  • Brian Hallila
  • 12 listens

Hey friends, Below is a description of the sermon series I begin this Sunday. (It will eventually be posted on the "Current Message Series" page of our website.) For several months I have longed that this year we simply take a fresh look at the person of Jesus portrayed in the Bible. It will not be a study through a particular gospel alone. Rather more of a walk through a gallery of pictures of Jesus given us throughout the Scriptures. My hope is that those of us who already trust in Him will be radically changed by a new exposure to our hero and redeemer. Further my hope is that we'd invite friends to come on any given Sunday to see one facet of the phenomenal grace displayed in the biblical portrait of Jesus. I invite your prayers that God will use these explorations to help many take the next step in their journey toward the heart of God. In His grace, Brian The Face of Jesus Jesus. He's everywhere! Car ornaments. Bumper stickers. Magazines. Movies. And he's controversial. Prayers in his name prompt outcry. A documentary claims discovery of his bones. Scholars search for the 'real Jesus. Artists enshrine or defame him. One book title asks, "What's the big deal about Jesus?" He seems to require explanation or defense. I say, "Let him speak for himself." What I mean by that is - just look at him. As the gospels portray him. As the prophets foretell him. As the apostles proclaim him. Just look at him. There is a power and beauty in the Bible's portrait of Jesus that has authority in and of itself. In one place (2 Corinthians 4:6) we are told that in looking at him we can see "the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." To see Jesus is to encounter the exquisite brightness of God's glory! That is some face! Together let's walk up to the Bible and examine Jesus' face. An open gaze can transform a life. So take the next step - invite a friend and come take an honest look at the face of Jesus. Sunday, January 13 Introduction: A Gaze at Glory 2 Corinthians 3,4
