This same message that Jesus spoke 2,000 years ago is just as applicable then as it is today. It's tempting to keep a list of rules and check off one's adherence to them. Go to church. Check. Give an offering. Check. Volunteer at the shelter. Check. Read the Bible and pray. Check. All of these things are good, but when they are done out of religious observance rather than faithful, glad submission to the King, we miss it. Our hope and prayer is that each of us lives moment by moment, guided by the Spirit, grounded on the truth, and trusting in God's promises. Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is so much more than compliance to rules and laws.
