John points Christ out and exclaims--Look at God's Lamb! He them shares how he didn't recognize Christ, but that God had told him how Christ would be revealed at baptism by the descent of the Holy Spirit. And so it happened. This One, says John, is the Son of God! In the Hebrew mind, like begets like. People beget people, and God begets God. To be the Son of God is therefore to be God, in other words!
