As His death approaches, Jesus teaches his disciples about last things, with the destruction of the temple in the foreground and the end of the whole world looming in the background. The desolation and destruction of the old order is a sign of redemption for God's people. Christ's resurrection gives us hope and courage when things are falling apart and ending in our lives. We need not fear as the world passes away around us, yet Christ warns us to be careful and watch out, so that we do not become so entangled with worldly pleasures that we are dragged down with them.
