Jesus gives us specific instructions on how to treat people who mistreat us. It isn't easy. We are reminded that turning the other cheek, loaning to those who want to borrow, and going the extra mile with those who are not kind is what the heavenly Father does when He allows the sun to shine and the rain to fall on the just and the unjust. "Being Like Our Father" may have been a better sermon title. Developing right and compassionate attitudes toward people who make our lives so difficult is the command of Jesus our Master.
