“Man"s plot sits within the permission of the Master's plan.” Genesis 37:18-20 They saw him from a distance, and before he came near to them, they conspired to kill him. 19 They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer. 20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild animal has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams.” Joseph, the dreamer is hated and envied by his brothers. Jacob, the patriarch of the family has showered Joseph with his love, and God has confirmed Joseph's superiority (?) and the brothers cannot speak peaceably to him. Jacob unknowingly sets his favored son up for the haters" evil plot. This plot is twisted and demented full of selfish schemes. People can and will go to great lengths to carryout evil plots against those whom they hate. Joseph's brothers are prime examples of this as they plot to rid themselves of the dreamer and his dreams (so they think). Conspiracy (vs. 18) - As they see Joseph coming the brothers secretly plan together to kill him. Espionage (vs. 22) " Reuben gives the impression that he wants to harm Joseph, but inwardly he plans to return him to his father. At first glance this seems noble, but even Reuben has a plan to use Joseph to make himself look favorable. Profiteering (vs. 26-27) " The brothers decide not to kill him, but sell him for profit, ridding themselves of the dreamer and his dreams, but gaining the spoils of the trade. Deception (vs. 33) " The brothers fool their father into thinking his son was dead, by using Joseph"s prized coat dipped in the blood of a goat. Leading their father into thinking a wild animal has devoured him. Although Joseph's brothers seem to “get away” with the perfect crime, God counteracts and delivers Joseph through His infinite sovereignty to Egypt, the place where God wanted Joseph to be. Even in the hands of the “haters” God's will is being done!
