The Period of the Judges was a dark time in the spiritual lives of God's people, Israel. The writer of the Bible Book of Judges tells us, "At that time there was no king; everyone did as he saw fit." As a whole, the Israelites abandoned God's love and commands to pursue their own selfish ends, whatever path they thought worked best for them. Like our culture today, they were very busy with life, but their lives were ultimately purposeless and filled with brokenness. However, in the midst of this tragic period rises a story of redemption, true love, and hope in the lives of three people: Ruth, Boaz, and Naomi. For the next five weeks, we will be diving into their story in the book of Ruth and seeing how God redeems our families and empowers us for His purposes even in the darkest of times.
