12:1 Live for your Creator before death overtakes you. 12:2-7 The aging process. 12:2 Fading of mental powers. 12:3d “Windows grow dim” Fading eyesight, cataracts, eye problems 12:4a “Doors on the street are shut” Hearing fails (Some think this is a reference to lips fall into the mouth for lack of teeth.) 12:4b “Sound of grinding mill is low” Hearing problem or toothless condition. 12:4c “One will arise at the sound of the bird” Light sleepers 12:4d “Daughters of song will sing softly” Voice weakens and unable to sing clearly 12:5a-b “Men are afraid of a high place and of terrors on the road” 12:5c “Almond tree blossoms” White hair 12:5d “Grasshopper drags himself along” Stiff and have difficulty walking 12:5e “The caper berry is ineffective” Sexual power and desire is diminished 12:5f “Man goes to his eternal home while mourners go about in the street” 12:6b “Golden bowl is crushed” Blow to the skull 12:6c “Pitcher by the well is shattered” Heart stops, heart disease, cardiac arrest 12:6d “Wheel at the cistern is crushed” Break down of blood circulation, hardening of the arteries, blood clots,etc. 12:7 After the slow dissolution has worked its evil, the body which is made of earth. returns to the earth. But the spirit goes to God who originally gave it to man. 12:8 “Vanity of vanities” 12:10-11 Listen to the words of Scripture. 12:12 Warning against studying too many books to the exclusion of the Bible. 12:13-14 Conclusion Fear God and keep His commandments.
