When it comes to diagnosing car problems or diseases of the human body, we move from symptoms to cause. The same is true in diagnosing diseases of the human soul. Jesus has called us to a life of self-examination. How do we know what is going on within our "hearts"? Very simply: The Fruit Reveals the Root. But the heart of man is difficult to analyze because it is allusive and deceptive. But God has given us the means to peer inside, to trace the "fruit" back to the "root" and then take corrective actions at the root level to change our character and conduct. Since our actions and words depend on what we have stored away in our hearts, we can take preventative measures to fill our hearts with the right stuff so that in the heat of the moment good rather than evil flows from us.
