We see in this passage, the perfect example of the need for repentance from sin and full surrender to God if one is to receive God's blessings. Many believe they can please God by going through religious rituals without addressing the issues of theiir own hearts. Such was the case with many in Israel during Zechariah's time. God's command to Israel was for repentance. Israel was ignoring God's commands to rebuild the temple after leaving Babylon. The rebuke of God lead eventually to Israel's repentance. However, until she repented, she experienced great sorrow and diffculties.
