can you imagine for a moment how Joseph felt when Mary told him that she was pregnant? He probably did not believe it either. How could this be happening to him? For Joseph, Mary being pregnant before they were “together” (code word for “sex”) meant the relationship had to end. There is no easy solution for Joseph according to the social norms of his ancient Jewish culture. Mary’s pregnancy will in one way or another completely disrupt Joseph’s life. Even as he comes to our world, Jesus disrupts people lives.
