many of us growing up were told to be home before the street lights came on, while the street lights themselves had no ultimate authority the fact that our parents used them to hang their commandments and affirm our maturity meant we had to honor the lights even when we disagree with their schedules. Our commitment to honor the lights sent a signal to our parents stating we could be trusted with other areas of independent responsibility.
