On this first Sunday of Advent, which is also the initial Sunday in the new church year, Pastor Betsy Ouellette led the congregation in a backward look at this first year of Good Samaritan Church. Various slides depicted the formation of the church from the first home meeting up through clearing the church property which began this past week. The Sermon came from Isaiah 2:1-5 and was called "Let There Be Peace." Isaiah had a dream and a vision for the people of Israel just like we have a dream and a vision for Good Samaritan United Methodist Church. Isaiah looked forward to when the weapons of war would be transformed into tools to cultivate the land with. Instead of being used for war they would implement peaceful pursuits. Betsy said that what we do now is wrapped up in the future and the coming reign of Christ. She asked four key questions: 1) Do you believe in peace? 2) Are you a peacemaker? 3) Are you at peace with God, yourself and people around you? 4) Are you praying for peace? Betsy closed the program with a video clip from Apollo 8's Christmas Eve, 1968, landing on the moon. As the astronauts sent the first pictures of the moon back to earth they read the creation story from Genesis. They closed with a prayer for universal peace on earth saying; "God Bless All of You."
