he focus was on Judaism in today's worship service and also in the home groups this week. It was the fifth World Religion to be studied in a six-week series on Christianity and the World Religions. The final lesson next week will feature Christianity. Pastor Betsy pointed out that there are a variety of ways in which the Jews practice their faith, just as Christians have different dominations through which they worship. The five divisions in Judaism are1) Orthodox 2) Modern 3) Conservative 4) Reconstructionist 5) Humanistic. Betsy pointed out that apart from the Jewish faith, as Christians, we wouldn't have our Messiah or the God we worship. Therefore, instead of criticizing them we should be peacemakers and should pray for them. She also presented a brief history of Judaism saying that it is a religion that began with a nation instead of one person in contrast to some other religions. Betsy stressed the faith of Abraham and the way God communicated that He would "make a great nation of Him." Moses was another superstar of Judaism, who was chosen by God to lead them on the biggest event of their history, the Exodus out of slavery in Egypt. The Pastor drew the analogy that just as some of the greatest growth of this people occurred while wandering in the desert, so does much of our personal growth occur when we are wandering around while God leads us to a greater purpose. Betsy pointed out the difference in Judaism and Christianity is that we believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Lamb of God, in whom the promise from God to Abraham was fulfilled.
