Today's Worship Service was the first since the "Topping Off" celebration held this past week to commemorate having reached the highest structural point in the construction of the first Good Samaritan building on the church property. It was fitting that the title of Pastor Betsy's sermon was "Living, Breathing Church." The scripture lesson was found in 1: Peter 2: 2-10. Before the sermon, Church Council Chairman Terry Cole explained to the congregation how the building construction plan was unfolding. The first building will house Sunday School rooms, the VPK Good Samaritan Academy and the Arts at Good Samaritan. Terry explained the reasons that GSUMC will begin to hold worship services on the property with the construction of the second building. The building pad for that building is down and much of the groundwork has already been done. Betsy talked about the excitement of seeing those buildings become a reality. But, pointing to the models, she stressed that these buildings are not the church. She said that all of us are the church. In fact, calling on the scripture from 1 Peter, she pointed out that we are royalty. "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood belonging to God." She also stated that we already "have a healthy strong church."
