Last week we studied the primary virtue of intelligent service to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the virtue of other-worldliness. This does not mean that God's people are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good! We see this play out in Romans 12:17-18, in the vivid language ofthe King James Version, where the appeal to the virtue of non-retributive action is counter-balanced by another virtue, the virtue of common sense: Recompense to no man evil for evil ....If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, Live peaceably with all men.
