Happy Easter!

On the first day of the week God said, "Let there be light!" And creation was birthed into being. On the sixth day he made man in his own image, and the seventh day he rested from all the works of his hands, seeing and declaring that they were good. Tov! However... Through the sin of the human "prototype," Adam, death entered the world and a curse has lain thick upon creation ever since. But God refused to give up on his marred cosmos. His insistent (stubborn?) grace and love gave forth his son who came among us to wear the heavy curse upon himself. On the sixth day God made man. On the sixth day, a particular Friday, man was undone on a cross outside Jerusalem. On the seventh day, the Sabbath, Saturday, the Son of Man rested in a tomb. And on the first day, a Sunday not unlike the Sunday creation was spoken into being, God raised Jesus from the dead. New Creation, pure in the new humanity and divine Lordship of Jesus, penetrating the deepest darkness of the fallen order. In his death our sins are overcome and the punishment of death has been laid upon another. In his resurrection we are given life and his Spirit as down payment that we belong to the New Creation in his name - being given full share in his imperishable life, ours to receive today and forever. This is what Christians celebrate every day and why they have had a particular fondness for Sundays over the last two thousand years - the first day of the week, the day when God made all things new in Christ. And this Sunday... Easter... Well, we're really fond of this Sunday!
