My grandfather used to say that it was great to see relatives. When you went to visit him you always got that sense too - that he genuinely enjoyed having you there. He also used to say that after three days it was time for company to leave because then, well, they started to smell like fish. Grandpa was a quirky guy. Think about it though: one minute there's the euphoria of seeing loved ones. A short while later you are counting the hours til they are gone. Why? Is it because you don't really love them? No. Is it because you want to reclaim the rec. room for yourself and watch whatever you want on TV? Maybe. Is it because they are eating you out of house and home? Possibly. Even more so though it likely has to do with something inside of us, inside our hearts. There is something about the human heart that is a bit perplexing don't you think? You can love something one minute - and be counting the hours til itâ€"s gone the next. Easter is just a week away. This Sunday at Hillside we are going to look together at some of the story of Easter that will help us understand more about our hearts, the fickleness we sometimes know is ours - and the beauty of this time of year for our spiritual lives. It really will be a moment of faith building that you will want to be part of.
