Please turn with me in your Bibles to the Old Testament book of Isaiah. For todays scripture, we are going to be reading Isaiah chapter 58, verses 1 – 14. As we have entered into a brand new year, we had started a brand new sermon series as well. The title of this series is called “Spiritual Growth in the New Year”. We began the first Sunday of the New Year with Part I in which our focus was on Eating Good, last week was Part II and our focus was on Exercise, and today, for our 3rd and final Sunday of this series, our focus will be on Rest. This is our Spiritual Rest… Most of us know a lot about Physical Growth and being Physically Fit. We have been there, we have done that… In the changing time of a New Year many people choose to establish this as a resolution. They make a choice to take better care of their bodies in the New Year, but the challenging question of this series is “What about our Spirit? What about its Fitness? What about its Growth?” Most of us go on about our daily business not realizing just how important our Spirit really is. And because of this fact, by the end of the day, the Spiritual aspect of who we are, is generally whats been neglected. The Bible does tell us though folks that by far our Spirit is the most important part of who we are, and we really should reconsider how we are living. This has served as part of the main goal that has been set for this series… Today, our focus is on Rest. This is our Spiritual Rest that comes thru the worship of our Lord. We begin here in the book of Isaiah, with Gods take on True and False Worship. So lets listen closely, as we read our scripture for today, Isaiah 58, verses 1 – 14.
