This sermon was preached in June of 1740 by Jonathan Edwards. His general outline: I. How false converts (=hypocrites) persevere in prayer for a season. II. It's the nature of hypocrites to stop praying altogether, because they don't persevere in anything. III. The reasons why it's in their nature to be hypocrites. APPLICATION I. IF you've (falsely) convinced yourself that you're a Christian but have never since conversion had a private prayer life, throw your false hope away. II. The exhortation to persevere in prayer comes from the Bible.
