"Ah the Wonder of it All" Christmas Day 2011. Christmas story and scriptures for the day are filled with "wonder' and the experience of wonder in peoples lives involved. The young children and infants of our congregation (and the Christmas Story) have reintroduced the preacher and the congregation (and world) to the experience and spiritually "wonder and mystery" of life, our lives and relationship with God and God's creation/creatures... The biblical story is an unlikely and contradictory story to what is normally promoted and interpreted by the culture and religion at Christmas. Jesus the King, Saviour, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Messiah, etc. (all titles given to Cesear and Roman Empire in contrast) was born in a barn, laid in animal feeding box, out of wedlock, to peasants , shepards (lowest classes) called to witness etc, etc... "Ah the wonder of it all" ... The Congregation is asked to share what they understand the term "wonder" to mean and where "wonder" has/is occurring for each.. The preacher shared how his grand daughters and the unlikeliness of the Christmas Story have mediated God and "the wonder of it all" to him at Christmas as never before. HE reminds us that we are all invited to enter into the "wonder of it all" in Jesus through the Holy Spirit, mediated and reawakened in us all through our children especially as never before on Christmas .. and every day.
