Longing to Belong

  • Roger Perry
  • 653 listens

There is a need to belong in the heart of everyone, at least that is what the behavioral scientists tell us. “Belongings” are not your material things, they are your relationships. The longing to belong is a central desire on the hearts of many people. Without the relational belonging, there is the problem of isolation. “Nearly every emotional issue, from depression to addiction, has isolation at its core or close to it” (Dr. Henry Cloud). Paul, in his letter to the church at Ephesus, reminds the readers: “But now in Christ Jesus you who were once far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:11). Then he goes on and talks about them belonging to Christ"s family in very concrete way"being formed right into the construction of the spiritual holy temple built by God.
