In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we see that God redeems us by exchanging our sin for the righteousness of Christ. God is active in redeeming sinners, Jesus willingly took the blame for sin that was not His, and all for our benefit. The result is that we can stand in the righteousness God has provided for us in Christ. This is how sinners are reconciled to God.
