In a social environment where discipline is viewed unfavorably, many parents wonder what to do when their children refuse to obey them. Likewise, when the exhortations of church leaders and congregations to those who are living disorderly lives are ignored, what can those churches do? That was the dilemma in Thessalonica, where a few disorderly members were causing turmoil by refusing to work and by sponging off their Christian brothers and sisters. In this final section of 2 Thessalonians, the Apostle Paul instructs the church how to handle this situation by way of church discipline. Placing this text in the context of the other New Testament texts on church discipline, Pastor Glass leads us to a balanced and biblical discernment on how to keep order amid disorder by the exercise of the "third mark" of a genuine church.
