Yom Kippur Leviticus 23:1-2. ADONAI said to Moshe, 2 "Tell the people of Isra'el: 'The designated times of ADONAI which you are to proclaim as holy convocations are my designated times. Leviticus 23:27-32. "The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom-Kippur; you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI. 28 You are not to do any kind of work on that day, because it is Yom-Kippur, to make atonement for you before ADONAI your God. 29 Anyone who does not deny himself on that day is to be cut off from his people; 30 and anyone who does any kind of work on that day, I will destroy from among his people. 31 You are not to do any kind of work; it is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live. 32 It will be for you a Shabbat of complete rest, and you are to deny yourselves; you are to rest on your Shabbat from evening the ninth day of the month until the following evening." His days, convocation in Hebrew means rehearsals! Yom Kippur is one of the holiest days of the year, a culmination of the completion of the 10 days of Awe and Yom Teruah! This was the one and only day of the year that the High Priest entered the "Holy of Holies" to make sin atonement for the nation of Israel. For the non-Messianic Jewish community this is a confusing day of not knowing if one remains in the “Book of Life” or not! With no atonement sacrifice this day can very confusing, for us that have Yeshua as our substitute sacrifice this is a day of great celebration! We began the service with the Kol Nidre, professing and apologizing before God our inherent flaws and shortcomings. Like a married couple who make up after a fight knowing that there will be future quarrels, we begin the feast by declaring that we will fall short and not keep every word we've spoken even before we speak them. Since the Tower of Babel, Humanity has sought to recapture "One Language" by which we could express ourselves in such a manner that both people and God could instantly comprehend and understand. A time when our purpose and direction is clear: God! Yom Kippur is also a time in which we use speech to come before God, to get closer to Him, to create an open portal between earth and heaven. By imitating God who spoke and created the universe we too who are created in His image speak in order to create a Holy Place for His presence, an altar within us for God to reside in! We strive for the right words with utmost seriousness and urgency, we search to find words that will pierce the air and reach into heaven unto God's ears! "Hear our prayers Oh God" we cry while desiring more and more of Him while trying to transform ourselves to what He desires of us!
